Be a Smartphone Scientist

Presented by Desert Research Institute

“Ask not what science can do for you, but what you can do for science”

Being a scientist doesn’t always mean putting on your lab coat and safety goggles and sparking up a Bunsen burner. If you have a genuine curiosity to learn more about the world, and an interest in collaborating with researchers, then becoming a smartphone scientist might be for you! The Desert Research Institute’s Northern Nevada Science & Technology Festival community event will bring local organizations together to show you how to use the technology in your pocket to participate in scientific research and accelerate data collection. From pristine snow crystals you can catch during a winter storm to reporting sightings of litter at your favorite beach at Tahoe; scientists want to know more about what you see. Best of all, the observations you submit directly aid local organizations in better understanding and protecting the outdoors we all love to play in. Come with a fully charged smartphone for an evening of science, food, fun, and activities!
