The Greenhouse Project Tour
Presented by The Greenhouse Project
The Greenhouse Project (TGP) is a nonprofit with a mission of providing healthy produce for community members who experience food insecurity in Carson City. Green Central, which is our main site, is located at Carson High School and offers work-based learning for the students. Here, we have added an outdoor classroom, and a Native Plant Nursery & Composting Program. TGP also includes Foothill Garden, which is a collaborative project with, and located at, Carson Tahoe Medical campus. We also continue to offer our gleaning program, and provide flower baskets each summer to Downtown Carson City. Guests will get a tour of Green Central, where we have our large production greenhouse, two hoop houses, a food forest, and raised beds. They will also have a chance to tour our expansion site, across the soccer fields from Green Central, where we have two more hoop houses, a commercial vermicompost system, and where we make large compost piles from food scraps collected from local schools and restaurants.
Parking: The greenhouse is located behind Carson High School. Take a left on East Robinson St. after passing the school and the greenhouse is on the left after passing the bus lot.
Safety information: Closed toed shoes are recommended.
Accessibility information: Our main site, Green Central is accessible, but if it’s muddy, our expansion site is not wheel chair accessible.
